At LOVE TO HEAR AGAIN - MAUI, we have helped people manage tinnitus and regain control of their lives. Depending on the cause of tinnitus, there may be solutions to stop the noises completely while in other cases, we may be reduce the loudness and annoyance of the noises.

What is Tinnitus?

Tinnitus is a symptom of a condition within the auditory system rather than a specific disease and may be due to a problem or problems in any part of the ear including the nerve of hearing and the brain. The type of noise one hears helps us to pinpoint the location of the problem and devise a solution. For example, ringing tinnitus may be related to exposure to high noise, while buzzing or hissing may be related to high cholesterol. Many people who suffer from tinnitus may have tried different remedies without success because those remedies may not be the correct approach for the cause of their tinnitus. It is rarely true that “nothing can be done about it so you just have to learn to live with it”.

For some people, tinnitus comes and goes, while others experience it continuously.  It can affect all ages and may begin suddenly or come on gradually. It can be perceived in one ear, both ears or in the head.

Many people with milder tinnitus may find relief by simply playing a radio or soft music at night when everything is quiet. Patients with more severe tinnitus may need additional treatment to find relief. While some treatments result in immediate relief, some patients may not see relief for several months. Successful treatment may depend on finding the cause of the tinnitus.
